How did you attract/address your audience?
My audience was attracted by using a young male as the model on the front cover, therefore straight away it would appeal to teenage males them selves. Then the vibrant colours helped attract the audience because they were very fluorescent and eye catching. Along with all his stuff, i added features such as free posters etc, these features are also in capitals so its easy to spot. One thing that is also essential is making your font understandable and easy to read, since my audience is quite young. The last thing you want is the audience having difficulty in reading it because then they wont read it. Following conventions of a magazine too, so it looks professional and to make the audience actually think that its a good magazine they're buying that's worth the money. On my front cover the image is really big, placed in the middle and staring right in front, as if its confronting you. I also made it so that it was relevant to the genre of the magazine to strictly attract an audience interested in dance music.
I tried not to use the same font throughout the magazine, but didn't want to use too many different fonts therefore I made it have about 2 different fonts, used in different areas across the magazine. Keeping the same house style is essential too, all the pages must look asif they're related to each other and that they're from the same magazine, otherwise it isn't very professional. All of these things were done to mainly propose to a young, male audience but not strictly just males though, it may also have an interest in women too.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
A media institution that might distribute my magazine could be an institution such as bauer or development hell ltd. Reasons for this are that bauer has published many other magazines before including top music magazines, Kerrang and Q. Kerrang being a fully male audience and Q being majority male but some female. The other company (development hell ltd) is an independent company based in London, which may also distribute a magazine like mine. Development hell ltd publish one of the biggest dance magazines, mixmag. This would probably be more suited to mine because it will have a majority male audience; it is also a dance genre magazine and makes use of vibrant colours like mine too. So it’s very similar to mine in different ways, therefore a company like this may think about distributing my magazine.
How does your media product represent paricular social groups?
My magazine is a dance genre magazine; it represents these by having bright colours which are contrasted with other colours to make things stand out a lot. My main photo also represents the dance genre because it has a photo of Daniel looking ‘cool’ and with his computer and decks which is modern technology which emphasises that it’s up to date and is looking to attract the younger generation. This vibrant colour pattern is carried on throughout the magazine to carry on the trend. Djers are normally seen to be male, and I followed this convention by making the main DJ on my magazine a male.
My media product represents young teens mainly, this is down to it having vibrant and bright colours along with it being a dance magazine because the dance genre mainly appeals to teenagers. It would appeal to the male population most of the time but it has things in it that tries to give it a wide audience by giving it a wide variation of dance acts and bright colours. It also represents daily life of people, the boy has a dream that he wants to achieve and his friends say he’ll never be able to do it then he actually does become famous which happens all over the world nowadays. Just to get the point across that dreams can come true, if you stick your head to it.
My magazine is priced at £3.50, which isn’t particularly expensive, therefore the working class will be able to afford it with not much of a bother which means that a lot of people will be able to buy my magazine and it will gather more purchases, making it more successful
